(#752) CHARITY DRIVES AND NEIGHBORHOOD SHARING

Resident Event Idea Community Garden Digital Graphic.jpg

There is no better way to create a real sense of community at your apartment communities than to create physical communal resources that give back. These types of physical resources allow us to do some good for our own residents and our wider community, giving us (and them) a sense of pride, purpose, and accomplishment. This is your opportunity to lay the groundwork to allow you and your team to facilitate a little good in the world.

BRING IT TO LIFE IN 1-2-3

  1. Grab your design.

  2. See specific instructions below for each initiative.

  3. Post reminder notices throughout the community and keep residents engaged by posting progress updates.

  • Free Pantry

Create an opportunity for residents to help other residents. Turn your entertainment kitchen, extra storage space, or another area of your community into a free pantry for residents to pool together their resources and help one another. To make it easier on yourself, only allow non-perishable items to be left in the area.

  • Community Library: A Community That Reads Together, Stays Together

Create a community library and help residents accomplish their goals of reading a few books this year. Encourage residents to drop off books they are done with for other residents to enjoy. This helps keep their homes clean while also giving them a resource for their next imaginary adventure. Keep the library stocked with disinfectant wipes so residents can wipe their books before they take them.

  • Community Garden: Bloom Where You Are Planted

Give your residents the opportunity to do something they would never typically do: start a garden. Pick a spot in your community whether it be the entrance, the courtyard, the roof, or any outdoor area to create a small garden. Then encourage residents and even your team members to reserve a patch to grow something special. Offer up a variety of tools and materials needed and watch how your community can grow together. Think of how special it will be to be able to harvest some great herbs for the entire community to use. If you have a passionate gardening resident, nominate them to take charge of the garden and be the liaison for you.
