Is your community pet-friendly? Encourage your residents to add a new family member by adopting or fostering a pet

Partner with a local shelter or Pet’s Alive Chapter to put on a virtual donation event at your community. Cute animals AND doing good, saving lives? What could be better?

Local shelters ALWAYS welcome donations. They can always use supplies and/or funds to keep their mission going. If a resident can’t adopt or foster- suggest making a donation.

Make it happen

Contact your local shelters and ask:
- What donations they need most
- How many cats and dogs they have available to foster or adopt
- Get photos if possible to share them on your social media!
Get your event flyers below and customize them to fit your communities specific needs.
Post on social media to spread the word. Consider opening the invitation to members of your city/community - not just restricting to residents. The more people in the know, the more pets may be adopted - that’s the point!

How to get the actual donations:

Set up a drop box or a basket in a public space (consider using the mailroom or the office stoop)
Give your residents enough notice. The day before is good so they’ll be ready to drop things off when you have a basket available.
Specify the donation window hours. For example, if you have an employee who can set up the box or basket in the morning, and pick up at the end of day, then let your residents know they have between the hours of 10am and 4pm to drop off donations. .
