FEATURE IDEA: HOME DÉCOR TIP

Start the New Year Cozy: Refresh your space for January by layering in warm textures and calm winter tones. Swap throw pillows and blankets for soft knits, plaids, or neutral hues, and add simple accents like candles, natural wood, or subtle metallics. Small updates—like a cozy throw, a seasonal centerpiece, or soft lighting—can help your apartment feel comfortable, refreshed, and perfectly suited for the start of a new year.

THE 7-DAY “SMALL WINS” RESOLUTION CHALLENGE

Big resolutions can feel overwhelming—so this January, we’re keeping it simple! The goal isn’t perfection… it’s progress.

How it works:
Pick one small habit you’d like to build and try it for just 7 days.

Daily ideas (choose one or make your own):

  • Drink one extra glass of water

  • Take a 10-minute walk

  • Tidy one small space

  • Stretch or breathe for 5 minutes

  • Write down one win from your day

Why it works:
Small, repeatable actions are easier to stick with—and they add up fast.

Bonus:
Share your challenge progress or favorite small win with the office or on the resident portal for a chance to win a small prize!

Feature recipe: VEGETABLE SOUP (SOUP MONTH)

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil

  • 1 medium yellow onion, chopped

  • 3 carrots, peeled and chopped

  • 2 celery stalks, chopped

  • 2 cups chopped seasonal vegetables, such as sweet potatoes, green beans, butternut squash, potatoes, bell pepper, zucchini or yellow squash

  • 1 teaspoon fine sea salt, divided, to taste

  • 6 cloves garlic, pressed or minced

  • ½ teaspoon curry powder

  • ½ teaspoon dried thyme

  • 1 large can (28 ounces) diced tomatoes

  • 4 cups (32 ounces) vegetable broth

  • 2 cups water

  • 2 bay leaves

  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
