Watch the previous video: Boundaries 101.

By now, you’ve identified a boundary that you’d like to implement or change.

Consider the communication method in which this boundary will be best delivered or discussed - check out the Do’s and Don’ts I’ve outlined in this video to ensure optimal communication.

DO’S WHEN COMMUNICATING NEW BOUNDARIES:

  • DO communicate new boundary via video/phone or preferably in person if possible. That way your tone is evident to whoever you are speaking to. Your tone says a lot about how serious you are.

  • DO be clear when explaining your new boundary - be as specific as possible and stand your ground.

  • DO feel free to reiterate your new boundary via voice message or even text/email if necessary AFTER having already communicated new boundary verbally.

DON’TS WHEN COMMUNICATING NEW BOUNDARIES:

  • DO NOT present your new boundary over email or text. You lose your tone and that may cause friction.

  • DO NOT use a justification at the end of a boundary discussion. Justifications are nervous fillers that devalue your boundary.
